it shows little by little, the raw truth is subtle
so sly, so sly, not pretty to my eyes
now here is something I know, so strip yourself for a show
it stinks, it stinks, this shameless act

She knew she should have just ordered online.
Anyone who happened to be browsing the various boutiques in Shibuya might have caught sight of the petite, boyish nineteen-year-old muttering quietly to herself; she was sitting on a bench a little ways off from the store she'd just visited, the strap of her bag slipping off her shoulder as she stared irresolutely at the papers she'd held in her hand.
Not that she was actually reading the papers.
"Oh, you'd like to buy these boots? Oh, I'm sorry, you can't have these boots. Why? Because it's not winter anymore. Why is that a problem? Nobody knows!"
Junko could have kicked someone.
It probably had something to do with that particular brand of shoes only being sold in certain installments, to preserve the 'rarity' of the make, or something like that - so she reasoned. Still, what an absolutely ridiculous reason; no one would ever brag about having limited-edition shoes.
...Actually, yes, they would.
Junko lost a little more faith in her generation at the thought.
Either way - Junko was irritated. Not that she would ever admit it, no, but it was irritating all the same. Her old shoes weren't exactly in terrible condition, but she could have used a new pair - but then came the store policy. It had ruined all her plans for the day.
And alongside having her plans ruined, there were the matters of withholding her real thoughts about everything, being embarrassed/injured/interrupted/ignored/dismissed, and forgetting proper social responses to situations she wasn't completely sure she cared about. All of which were troublesome.
She could have easily written twenty pages on each of the subjects, but of course, no one really wanted to listen. It might be entertaining for certain readers, though. "I should start a blog," she mumbled, glossing over the translation notes in her hand again.
If she really wanted to be productive with her time, she could have just gone to a different store and searched for a similar type of shoe, but Kurosawa Junko did not want to obtain a reputation for being a chronic shoe shopper. Kurosawa Junko did not want much of a reputation for anything, actually.
Not that anyone would be looking for her anyway.
But still.
What a ridiculous policy.
