love, love, love, i want your love
Today was a good day. Today was a lovely, wonderful, delightful day. Mitsuya Hikari decided this pleasantly as she counted the flowers in the bouquet she'd bought from a small floral shop she visited once a week. The owner knew her well and often saved some of the best picks for her. Hikari tended to pay them extra when she was exceptionally impressed, after all. And with a giggle and a smile, she'd been on her way with a bouquet of nice, white lilies clutched between her hands. It was a pretty afternoon; actually not too hot despite the warm, summer breeze that teased at the girl's rosette hair. She loved Ueno Park. It was especially lovely during the spring when the cherry blossoms were blooming. We'll have picnics here every week... She'll bake me cupcakes and I'll feed her slices of watermelon... Hikari's mind was wandering again, as it so often was. The girl was notorious for staring off into space, usually with a pleased little smile and a wistful sigh. We'll kiss under the trees... Just her and me...
Her fingertips caressed one of the lily's white petals with sensual fondness as she roamed down one of the park paths. Occasionally, she'd pluck at the tag that was tucked into the bouquet. She'd read it and her eyes would light up as she giggled, smiled, and put it back into the plastic wrapping. It read, "Natsu-Chan, I love you. I will always love you. Don't forget that I love you~" Signed, of course, by no one beside a pretty heart drawn in pink ink. It was always so thrilling when she sent gifts to Natsuko. Even when she didn't have her name printed on the card, it was exciting just knowing that her presents were received at all. Hikari wanted, so badly, to be more open to the girl about her love, but was smart enough to know that this might not be the most favorable course of action. Hikari had become experienced with the methods of her affections. It was best to take things slowly... To wait for all the pieces to fall into place. She had some good feelings about this time, after all. Natsuko was everything the other girls hadn't been. She was her soulmate. So while Hikari's feelings for the girl couldn't be expressed openly, she'd have to do with sending her anonymous gifts and letters, hoping only that they'd bring a smile to the redhead's sweet face.
It was as Hikari was imagining this exact image -- one with Natsu's face lit up with glee -- that she seemed to have forgotten that other people were on the path with her. She was walking across one of the bridges when she ran straight into a young man who was trying to hurry past. Startled with a soft "O-oh!" Hikari fell backwards on her bum while the bouquet she'd been carrying managed to slip out of her hands and up into the air. The boy she'd run into was muttering a few hurried apologies as he offered a hand to help her to her feet. Shaking her head to try and clear it, Hikari blinked up at him, nerves instantly on edge. She glanced hesitantly towards his offered hand, still very disheveled and oddly pale. Her heart gave a fluttering "ba-bump" in her chest and she swallowed with uncertainty. Having run into the hard shape of a man was a little much for the petit artist, who seemed a bit shaken up when it had only been a small tumble backwards off her feet. The close contact... It... It was unsettling. But she'd realized that her bouquet was misplaced and hurriedly grabbed the man's hand rather tight when she realized this, tugging herself quickly to her feet. Her nails had dug in when she'd pulled herself up, earning a startled hiss from the apologetic offender. Intentional? Oh, no… Of course not.
"I, uh... Sorry!" the young man said again with a brief nod before he ran off. The pink-haired girl didn't seem to notice at all, anxiously searching for her small arrangement of flowers. It was when she glanced over the bridge's railing that she saw it sinking into the pond, note and all. Absolutely devastated, she fidgeted with the temptation to dive in after it. Restlessly, she tugged a little at her red tank top and the hem of her little white skirt. Oh... Oh no! What was going to happen if Natsu-chan didn't get a present? Would she forget that someone loved her? Hikari was so very downcast as she clung to the railing at gazed into the pond where she'd seen the remnants of the flowers. They should've floated, but it seemed to have snagged something and now they were nowhere to be seen. Hikari sighed and tugged at some of the strands of hair framing her face. That clumsy, ugly, stupid boy!
Out of habit, she tried straightening out the messy bun that had been tousled with her little stumble, adjusting one of the floral hairclips with a worried hum. She didn't have enough money on hand to buy a second bouquet right this second. She'd have to take a train home and back again, but the store would probably be closed by then! This... This wasn't good. Natsuko would be so sad! Her Natsuko wouldn't have anything to brighten her day! Oh, yes, this was very upsetting for Hikari. So upsetting, in fact, that she wondered if she could track down the man who'd bumped into her... and "persuade" him to hand over some of his spare change. I’ll persuade him with some piano wire I saved from my last art project… I’ll wrap it around his leg and saw, saw, saw away… Hikari’s grip on the railing tightened, her knuckles white. She tried glancing slowly to the side to see where he’d gone… but the man was nowhere to be seen. Oh well. All she could do was despair and pout down at her anxious expression in the peaceful pond water. So much for that lovely day.
